Multi-point Latch Solution for Network Infrastructure Solutions Provider (Case Study)Case Studies
“The customer was so happy with the solution that they are adopting the multi-point solution for all other cabinets.”
DIRAK’s engineering team provided consulting to a global leader in products and systems for electrical installations and information networks that offer solutions for use in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Their product line features superior designs to create flexible, efficient solutions, and ensure flawless operations in data centers and building networks.
The company was designing a new network cabinet which featured two swinghandles on either side of the door for the possibility to open from both the left and the right sides. Both swinghandles utilized a three point cam system attached to round rods; one set of round rods acted as the cabinet’s hinges while opening the door from the opposite side. The company was faced with a growing number of complaints from their customers about the angle that was created in the round rods by the rotation of the three point cam. Many
times when trying to close the door, the rods could not find their locking points. This resulted in partial engagement – and ultimately failure – when the operator would open the other handle, resulting in the door falling off the frame. This company reached out to DIRAK’s engineering team to consult on a new product solution to solve this design challenge.
Using their creativity, experience, and expertise DIRAK created a customized solution that solved the problems created by a three point cam and provided a solution creating perfect linear motion and ensuring proper rod functionality and engagement from opening to locking. Additionally, the new gearbox mechanism provided a higher quality feeling for the user when rotating the swinghandle. The customer was so happy with the solution that they are adopting the multi-point solution for all other cabinets.
